'Grief Land' Bereavement Resource

£25.00

Grief Land is a brand new resource designed to help chaplains, youth workers, mentors, pastors and other professionals work with individuals and groups around the issue of bereavement.

Using the fictional and imaginary island of 'Grief Land', children and young people are invited to explore the island, which features unique landmarks and locations representing the different emotions common during grief.

The island is designed in such a way that children and young people are encouraged to see grieving as a unique, complex and personal journey with unspecified timeframes, countering the myth that grief just needs to be worked through in 'stages' before life returns to 'normal'.

This resource has been created following years of conversations with hundreds of young people about death, dying and loss. It has been specifically designed to be adaptable and flexible to work in a variety of settings, including one-to-one mentoring relationships, as part of a pastoral support programme, or with groups of young people during a youth work session or intervention.

The downloadable leader's guide includes:

  • An introduction to the resource

  • A welcome script for groups

  • Descriptions of each location and landmark on Grief Land

  • Suggested questions for individuals and groups

The guide gives you access to additional resources, including:

  • A high resolution map of Grief Land

  • A 'Visitor's Guide' to give to young people

  • A labelled map highlighting each location and landmark

We hope this resource helps you as you work to navigate difficult questions and complex emotions whilst supporting children and young people to take the next step on this difficult journey.
