SWITCH Programme Manual - Challenging Hateful Language

£30.00

The SWITCH Programme is a one-to-one behavioural intervention, designed to challenge hateful language by young people in school settings. Developed over four years and following successful interventions with dozens of young people, this programme can be delivered by teaching or support staff to challenge young people on their behaviour in a supportive and transformative way.

This programme helps young people to reflect on their words and language, educates them on how hateful speech is categorised, and allows them to explore the importance of why hateful speech needs to be challenged in a school environment.

Previous deliveries of this programme have seen 90% of young people go on to have no further recorded incidents of hateful language.

The SWITCH programme is a one-session intervention which can be delivered in as little as 20-30 minutes between one young person and one member of staff. This downloadable guide takes you step-by-step through the programme, including micro scripts for the staff member, and suitable diagrams for explaining concepts. The appendix includes a reflection sheet which can be used to evidence that the intervention has taken place.
